Requirements and procedures to enrol in an Italian University vary depending on whether you are an EU or a non-EU student, and whether you’re applying at undergraduate (referred to as ‘first cycle’ or ‘Laurea triennale’) or graduate level (‘second and third cycle’ or ‘Laurea magistrale/Laurea a ciclo unico’). Each University has a different admission procedure and can have its own admission test – details about the enrollment procedures can be found on the website of each University.
Below are some general guidelines, but every University or Institution of Higher Education may require extra documents in addition to those listed below.

- Final Diploma of Secondary Studies accompanied by a translation into Italian officially legalised by the authorities of the country issuing the degree;
- Certificate proving the completion of 1 or 2 years of Academic Studies or a Post-secondary Title for those countries where the educational system lasts only 11 or 10 years, accompanied by its legalisation or apostille;
- Declaration of Value issued by the Italian Embassy in the country where the diploma has been obtained or Statement of comparability issued by CIMEA or validity certificate issued by ENIC-NARIC centres;

For further information about obtaining a visa for study purposes, please visit the http://vistoperitalia.esteri.it website.MIUR and Italian Universities are not in charge of visa issuance procedures: only the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) is responsible for that. Accepting a student by a higher education institution does not guarantee a visa issuance.
